Testimonials

Diane receives a copy of Psalm 95 from Geneva College President Calvin L. Troup and Dr. David K. Smith in Grand Rapids, Mich.

"I am absolutely thrilled with the two compositions which were recently commissioned from Diane Whitacre.  The first, a composition for flute,  piano, and narrator, is based upon the poem Casey At The Bat.  The writing is wonderful and flows with witty twists and turns, delighting both performers and listeners.

The second composition, A Shoemaker's Dream for flute, guitar/harp and narrator, is destined to become a major work in the flute and guitar/harp literature.  Diane is certainly in her element-- with such freeflowing imagination, full of rhythmic appeal, these pieces showcase her extremely gifted and compositional talents."

Commissioning Music

Diane specializes in custom, original compositions, written with the strengths and weaknesses  of each particular ensemble in mind.  Do you have a strong trumpet player or section you would like to highlight in a piece?  Is there a certain musical strength to your ensemble you would like showcased?  Do you have varying range needs from section to section that need to be addressed?  The beauty of a commissioned piece is that it can be written to bring out the uniqueness and strengths of your group of musicians, regardless of their ability or age.

Pricing

Our prices are some of the most reasonable in the business, and we work with each ensemble's budget considerations.  Diane's husband Chris is a high school band director, and we are familiar with these challenges.  Our goal is to provide directors and ensembles with an excellent piece of music, and an opportunity to work and interact with a composer.  We recommend you contact us to discuss your project idea so that we can talk about pricing.

Your Piece Will Include:

  • An initial consultation on your vision and purpose for the piece, and ensemble abilities
  • Input with the composer during the writing process
  • Timely writing that meets your schedule and deadlines
  • A full score and parts, bearing the name of your ensemble and occasion of the commission permanently appearing under the title
